Storyboard and animatic

With the transcript of the 40 seconds I chose from the interview, I had to visually plan The Joys of Being Furry through storyboarding. This process involves rough sketches of various shots and character actions/poses and ensuring that the overall narrative works before getting into the meat and bones of production so that no time is wasted animating a flawed shot.

The 40-second documentary has 15 shot planned from a total of 74 boards (excluding the cover). These were all drawn with a Wacom Intuos tablet in Adobe Photoshop, and by using storyboard templates created by Jazza via Newgrounds. Drawing these boards digitally saved a lot of time as doing it on paper would require extra work to scan each sketch.

Each board has a description of what events happen in each one, along with parts of the transcript that accompany them for easier animatic editing. All are below via slideshow (click left and right to browse).

The completed storyboards were then edited into an animatic through Adobe Premiere Pro, complete with the 40-second interview audio and temporary sound effects obtained from freesound.org. The accompanying music I decided to use for both the animatic and the final product is the copyright-free song "Morning Walk" by Jingle Punks to give the documentary a lighthearted and positive vibe, and its short 1-minute composition makes it an ideal fit for the runtime of the documentary.

Creating the animatic will help with the overall production of the documentary, allowing me to properly determine how long each shot is, and how exactly the sounds will fit in.
